The application of ICC color profile in color management

One of the important elements is the ICC Color Profile (unified color characteristic description file of the international color alliance). A complete ICC color profile should contain the characteristic description parameters of the correlation between the primary color gamut space and the target color gamut space, such as different gradient curves, gray axes, color tables, etc. for the equipment itself and the operator. For different relationships between different gamut space models, there are three different types of ICC color profiles. The first is the most important and the most widely used ICC color profile, which describes the characteristics of specific device gamut space (such as RGB of scanner, CMYK of proofer, etc.). This ICC color profile is a characteristic description file based on device independent gamut space. The second is the color characteristic description file associated with the device, which is based on two or more color gamut spaces, such as between two displays, between multiple displays and printing equipment. It aims to describe the differences between devices, and then cooperate with other software systems to complete the unified management of color. The third is the associated color characteristic description file based on different color gamut spaces or even different standards, also known as PCs profiles (profile connection space profiles), such as describing the color characteristics of the same device or different devices in the environment of D65 and D50 different standard light sources. at present, there are many color management software for digital proofing in China because it must have softness and soft touch, but the principle of color management is basically the same. We know that the ultimate goal of digital proofing is to achieve the consistency between proofing and printing content and color, and the premise of realization is that the color gamut space of the proofing machine must be larger than the color gamut space of printing, so as to realize the matching of the two color gamut spaces and the unification of a step hole in the center of the disc. There are four ways to convert printer gamut space to printing gamut space. The first is the feeling method. If the color difference is measured after proofing with this method, its delta e is not necessarily the smallest, but proofing seems to be closer to real printing in the sense of human eyes. It caters to the feeling of human eyes, so the overall color effect is closer to printing. This method will be more suitable for proofing of works of art or sample albums. The second is the absolute colorimetric method. If measured with a colorimeter, this method is the fundamental method of sustainable economic growth in Asia. The proofing result delta e will be smaller because it is converted based on the minimum measured color difference. In the process of processing, it will take into account the colors of printing paper and proofing paper, even if there is a color difference between the two papers, It will also balance the paper color difference through ink simulation to achieve the complete consistency between proofing and printing color. This method can be selected for strictly required packaging printing proofing and some proofing involving spot color. The third is the relative chromaticity method, which is very similar to the absolute chromaticity method, but it does not take into account the paper color like the absolute chromaticity method. The last one is the saturation method. If the feeling method is to reduce the difference of colors in people's vision, the saturation method tends to be bright and saturated on the basis of the feeling method. Due to the compression of the color gamut space of the proofing machine to the printing color space, some color proofing that needs to be exaggerated is not saturated. For proofers who require printers to continue to play color control to pursue better printing effect, Saturation method is the best choice, especially for the equipment with relatively small color gamut space in proofing. The above four conversion methods have their own characteristics and application objects. As long as they are reasonably selected and used, they should achieve the desired desired effect
